Health & Safety Manager

Location: Christchurch

  • Help us take the next step in our safety journey

  • Partnering with managers and helping to get things done

  • Bring your safety skills to our team

This role has a healthy mix of day-to-day activity alongside higher-level activity working with the General Manager to move the dial on the overall safety performance of this business.

Collaboration is key to your success in this role – working alongside and inside our busy operation to really understand the risk profile of the work we do.  We are looking for someone to own our safety systems and processes, turning codes and regulations into practical solutions that add value.

Working alongside our managers and team members your daily tasks range from responding to general enquiries, assessing risks and identifying appropriate controls, auditing our branches against pre-determined criteria, sitting on and coaching a safety committee, assisting managers with both straight forward and complex safety investigations and completing contractor pre-quals.

There is a decent amount of admin in this role, therefore being a strong administrator who is confident with Microsoft office suite and safety systems is critical for this position.

Knowing how to influence and coach others is a big part of this role, therefore having previous experience in this space is essential.  Understanding safety behaviours and culture and being able to assist with driving change and upskilling our leaders also forms part of this role.

Ideally degree qualified, you will be a technical safety expert with demonstrated experience in a business partner environment.  Having the right fit with our business is also really important therefore your sense of humour and fun will be just as important as your work ethic.  Being prepared to get stuck in and get things done will be a product of your high level of motivation.

To be successful you will need to be pragmatic, practical and adaptive to the challenges of a busy workplace.
